How to cultivate Firethorn bonsai

How to cultivate Firethorn bonsai

1. Soil

If you want the Pyracantha bonsai to grow vigorously, you should use loose, breathable and slightly acidic soil for maintenance. You can use humus soil, garden soil mixed with an appropriate amount of coal slag for maintenance. This way the roots can better absorb nutrients and water, which is beneficial to growth. In addition, please note that the soil should be changed every two or three years.

2. Lighting

It needs an environment with sufficient light to grow. It should be placed in a well-lit place at ordinary times. It will grow stronger with sufficient sunlight, and its branches can sprout better and it will bloom more later. However, in the summer, you must pay attention to provide shade in time when there is strong light to avoid sunburn of the plants.

3. Watering

Watering it should be determined according to the season. If it is during the growing season in spring and autumn, you should water frequently to keep the soil slightly moist, normally once every three to five days. When the temperature rises in summer, you need to increase the frequency of watering and water it every day. The temperature is low in winter and the growth slows down. The amount of watering should be controlled and it is better if the soil is slightly dry.

4. Fertilization

If you want it to grow more vigorously, you need to give it sufficient nutrients. During the growing season, fertilizer should be applied every 10 days, and the fertilizer can be decomposed organic liquid fertilizer. When flowering, add phosphorus and potassium fertilizers to make the flowers more colorful and the flowering period longer.

5. Temperature

Normally, the best temperature to provide it is between 20-30 degrees, which is most conducive to its growth. Although it likes a warm environment, it is also cold-resistant and can withstand temperatures as low as minus 15 degrees Celsius. It can be placed outdoors in winter, but the temperature should not exceed 10 degrees, otherwise it will affect dormancy and be detrimental to its growth next year.
