It is spring now, and many people want to plant some trees in the open space in front of and behind their houses. With the improvement of living standards, people also pay attention to the creation of home environment. Osmanthus tree , as an evergreen ornamental tree in the south, has always been loved by everyone. So is it a good idea to plant an osmanthus tree at the door? Let’s take a look below. 1. Is it a good idea to plant an osmanthus tree at the door? The sweet osmanthus tree is very suitable to be planted at the door. The leaves of the sweet osmanthus are lush and evergreen, the tree is long-lived, it blooms in autumn, and the fragrance of the flowers is overflowing, transmitting the sweet fragrance of the sweet osmanthus in the air. The cold dew, moonlight, and the fragrance of the flowers can best evoke people's emotions and give people endless reverie. In home Feng Shui, osmanthus is one of the courtyard's auspicious symbols. Its special texture and function are spiritual and can protect the home, so it can be called the patron saint of the house. 2. Osmanthus fragrans planting technology 1. Selection of cultivation site The choice of cultivation site is crucial to the growth of osmanthus. First of all, choose a place with plenty of sunlight, because osmanthus likes sunlight, and sufficient sunlight can promote the growth and flowering of osmanthus. Secondly, choose a place with good drainage, because osmanthus is not tolerant of water and moisture, and stagnant water can easily lead to root rot. Osmanthus is not tolerant to smoke and dust. Do not plant it in places with a lot of smoke and dust. In such places, osmanthus often grows poorly, its leaves become smaller and fall off easily, and it blooms less. Therefore, planting osmanthus trees requires choosing a location that is sheltered from the wind, facing the sun, high and dry and ventilated, with a little shade from objects, good drainage, a groundwater level below 150 cm, a thick soil layer, and slightly acidic soil that is rich in organic matter and has good permeability. Too sticky or too loose soil is not suitable for the growth of osmanthus , and waterlogging in the soil can easily cause root rot. 2. The size of the cultivation pit The size of the cultivation pit directly affects the growth of the osmanthus root system. Generally speaking, the depth and width of the cultivation pit should be 80 cm × 80 cm. This can provide sufficient growth space for osmanthus, which is conducive to the growth and expansion of the root system. 3. Apply enough basal fertilizer Osmanthus likes fertilizer. Osmanthus trees grow vigorously and consume a lot of fertilizer. Before planting osmanthus, you should apply enough base fertilizer. The base fertilizer can be decomposed farmyard manure or compound fertilizer to provide sufficient nutrients to support the growth of osmanthus. Put a layer of base fertilizer at the bottom of the cultivation pit, then put the osmanthus into the pit to stretch the roots, cover with a layer of soil, lift the osmanthus tree up lightly with your hands, and then add fertile soil until it reaches the surface of the pit, so that the soil is in good contact with the roots of the osmanthus, and then water it enough. 4. Pruning and root pruning When planting osmanthus, the branches should be pruned to reduce water evaporation and nutrient consumption. At the same time, the roots should be pruned, and injured or rotten roots should be cut off to retain healthy roots. This can promote the growth and recovery of osmanthus. 5. Root system thinning During the planting process, the roots of osmanthus should be spread out so that they are evenly distributed in the planting pit. This can prevent the roots from getting tangled together and affecting the growth and development of osmanthus. Place the osmanthus plant upright in the center of the planting pit, with the root system stretched out. When adding soil, press it tightly in layers. When the soil is filled to half of the planting pit, lift and shake the osmanthus plant lightly to compact the soil. 6. Compact the soil After planting is completed, the soil around the cultivated osmanthus should be lightly compacted to prevent the moisture from evaporating and drying too quickly, which would affect the survival of the transplant. At the same time, compacting the soil can provide a stable growth environment for osmanthus. 7. Water the roots After planting, water should be applied immediately to help the seeds take root. Root-fixing water can promote the close integration of the osmanthus roots and the soil, which is beneficial to the growth and development of the roots. After watering the tree to help it take root, cover the tree tray with a layer of straw or film to keep it moist and warm. 8. Set up the shelf In order to ensure the upright growth of the osmanthus tree trunk and prevent wind and rain from affecting the survival of the osmanthus tree, a support should be set up after planting is completed. The support can be made of materials such as wooden sticks or bamboo. Four support points are marked around the tree trunk, and the trunk and the support points are fixed together with ropes. This will prevent the wind from causing the tree trunk to tilt or fall over. 9. Maintenance of young osmanthus trees Before planting young trees, apply compost or other farmyard manure as base fertilizer per acre to ensure that the new roots of the seedlings can get nutrients in time and the branches and leaves grow luxuriantly. Apply human manure once in spring, and once again in May and July to promote the growth of the first and second shoots. One-year-old osmanthus seedlings can grow 30-60 cm in a year. Since osmanthus has the characteristic of naturally forming shrubs , it can become a beautiful spherical shape with a little pruning. That’s it |
