The breeding methods and precautions of butterfly flowers

Reproduction method

1. Planting

It is best to sow in autumn in September. There are 700 seeds per gram. The suitable temperature for germination is 13℃ to 16℃. It will germinate 12-15 days after sowing. It takes about 100-110 days from sowing to flowering.

2. Cuttings

It is carried out in May and June. Cut off the branches sprouting from the base of the plant and insert them into peat. Keep the air moist. It will take root 15-20 days after insertion and the survival rate is high.

3. Division

It is usually done after flowering. The side branches with adventitious roots or the new branches with roots that sprout from the rhizomes are cut off. They can be directly potted and placed in semi-shaded place to recover.

Precautions

1. Temperature

The suitable temperature for germination of butterfly flowers is 18-21℃. It will germinate in 7-10 days under light-proof conditions. The growth temperature is 10-13℃. It will bloom 14-15 weeks after sowing. If the temperature is too high during sowing, it will affect the germination of seeds and the growth of seedlings, resulting in a low seedling rate. The soil temperature during the growth stage of pansy seedlings is 15-24℃. The lower the temperature, the slower the plant grows and the stronger the plant is.

2. Lighting

After sowing the butterfly flower, cover the seeds with vermiculite, keep the soil temperature at 18-24℃, keep the medium moist. No light is required before the basil grows, and seedlings usually emerge in 7-14 days.

3. Watering

Let the soil dry out before watering, but avoid permanent wilting of the plant, which is beneficial to the growth of the pansy roots. The soil pH should be maintained at 5.5-5.8, and some N fertilizer or potassium nitrate fertilizer should be applied alternately.
