Winter maintenance methods for bougainvillea

Winter maintenance methods for bougainvillea

1. Temperature

Bougainvillea is afraid of freezing, so the maintenance temperature in winter should be above 7℃. Watering must be cut off when the temperature is below 10℃. When the temperature rises above 10℃, water it a little along the edge of the pot at noon when the light is good.

2. Watering

In winter, when the temperature is lower than 15℃, you must water less and increase the watering intervals. In winter, when the temperature is higher than 15℃, you can water as usual. Weigh the soil in the pot. If it feels noticeably lighter, water it thoroughly. If you can't weigh it, water it thoroughly if the leaves of the plant wilt.

3. Lighting

Bougainvillea likes light, and the light in winter is warm and soft, so the potted plants must be moved to the best place indoors. More sunlight is beneficial for the plants to accumulate nutrients. Good light and high maintenance temperature are also conducive to the safe wintering of Bougainvillea.

4. Fertilization

The temperature is low in winter, so do not apply fertilizer. Bougainvillea is in a dormant state, and the plant cannot absorb the fertilizer at all, and it is easy to cause fertilizer damage. If the indoor heating is on, the temperature exceeds 15°C, and there is sufficient light, you can apply thin fertilizers frequently as appropriate.

5. Pruning

When growing bougainvillea in winter, you must pay special attention and never prune it too hard. If you do, the leaves of the bougainvillea will become fewer, which will affect photosynthesis, reduce the amount of organic matter transported downward, and the root system will easily become dead after being deprived of food. If you want to prune the plant, just cut it lightly after the flowers fade. This will help the bougainvillea grow and bloom in the spring of next year.
