Which month is best for sowing beans?

Green beans are a common vegetable that is widely grown and does not require advanced technology to grow. They are usually sown directly. So which month is best for sowing beans? Let’s learn more about it below.

Which month is best for sowing beans?

Green beans are heat-resistant vegetables. The suitable temperature for seed germination is 25 to 30 degrees, and the suitable temperature for growth is 23 to 28 degrees. Mid-April to early May every year is the suitable time for open-air sowing of spring beans. The specific sowing time varies slightly from region to region.

Bean sowing and cultivation technology

1. Live broadcast

Beans can be sown directly or transplanted from seedlings. In the traditional planting process, seeds are usually sown directly, and the germination method is adopted, and the seeds are planted a few days later to prevent the seeds from not germinating in time in the soil for a long time, and there is a possibility of seed rot.

2. Seedling stage

Generally speaking, after all the seedlings have emerged, you can water them once according to the soil moisture conditions until ten days before the first flowering. As long as the soil water holding capacity is not enough to affect the growth and development of the plants, do not water them at this stage, and focus on tilling the soil to conserve moisture and let the seedlings grow slowly. The seedling squatting period is generally 15 to 20 days. When the internodes of the plant become shorter, the leaves become thicker and the leaf color becomes darker, and the plant is clumped, the seedling squatting can be ended and fertilizer and water management can be resumed.

3. Leading vines

Beans are climbing plants. When the seedlings grow to 40 to 50 cm, they are guided into the racks. Vines are usually guided in the afternoon on a sunny day when the branches and vines have low water content, are tough and not easily broken, and not in the morning. When the main vine grows the first inflorescence, the side branches and axillary buds under the first inflorescence of the main vine need to be removed to reduce the plant's nutrient consumption, which is beneficial to the strength of the main vine and the distribution of the side branches of the first inflorescence, and improves the ability to bloom and set pods. When the main vine grows to about 1.5 meters high, it is topped. This can not only eliminate the nutritional apical advantage of the beans, but also promote nutrient return, stimulate the plant from physiological growth to reproductive growth, and promote early flowering and podding.

4. Pod-setting period

Apply flowering-promoting water before the initial flowering, and at the same time apply flowering-promoting fertilizer to the beans; wait until the initial flowers form pods and the pods grow to 3 cm before applying fertilizer and watering. Generally, 25 kilograms of compound fertilizer are applied per mu. Entering the peak pod stage, due to the large amount of pods produced during this period, large amounts of water and fertilizer are required. However, beans are not tolerant to waterlogging. Water them frequently with small amounts of water, once every 3 to 5 days. Always keep the soil dry and moist, and avoid waterlogging in the field. After harvesting pods 1 to 2 times during the peak pod period, apply the first pod-promoting fertilizer to prevent excessive nutrient consumption and premature aging of the plant due to excessive pod production. Use 10 kilograms per mu, or apply organic fertilizer liquid, and use the two fertilizers alternately.
