Things to note when repotting Jade Plants, do you need to prune the roots when repotting Jade Plants?

Things to note when repotting Jade Plants, do you need to prune the roots when repotting Jade Plants?

1. Time to change pots

Pay attention to the time when changing the pot. It is recommended to change it in spring. The temperature is suitable and the plant growth is stable. Changing it at this time can reduce damage to it, and it will be able to adapt faster and resume growth faster later. Cannot be switched between summer and winter. The temperature in summer is too high, which makes it easy for the plants to become dehydrated. Repotting will inevitably cause wounds, which can easily lead to infection with bacteria and pathogens. The temperature is low in winter, which makes it easy to get frostbite, and is not conducive to later recovery.

2. Pruning the root system

The Jade Plant has a strong germination ability, so the roots must be trimmed every time the pot is repotted. Cut off some old, rotten, and diseased roots, leaving only healthy roots. After pruning, disinfection is required and carbendazim should be applied to the wound to avoid infection. This treatment can better absorb nutrients and water in the later stage, promoting better germination.

3. Replace new soil

Every time you change the flower pot, you should remove some of the old soil, about two-thirds, and add new nutrient soil. This way the soil will be looser, more breathable, and contain more nutrients. When preparing, you can mix leaf mold, garden soil and river sand to meet your needs. If the old soil is too compacted, you can replace it all.

4. Post-planting management

Also pay attention to management after repotting. It should be placed in a ventilated and dark place first, and then slowly increase the light after four or five days. Because the plant is very weak after being repotted and has not yet recovered its growth, it will easily get sunburned if exposed to strong sunlight. After four or five days, the plant will basically be through the acclimatization period and can be managed normally.
