How to prepare the soil for planting succulents and the planting materials for succulents

1. How to prepare the sowing soil

The soil used for sowing succulents must have a certain degree of water retention and good air permeability, which is very important for the development of seeds. Peat, vermiculite and granular soil are usually mixed in a ratio of 3:1:1. The granular soil should not be too large, with a diameter between 1-3 mm. If the particles are too large, the overall water retention will be poor, which is not conducive to seed development.

2. What are the planting materials?

1. Peat soil: currently a popular succulent planting material, it is relatively expensive, but the performance is also very good. This planting material has a light texture, can retain water and fertilizer, and has good air permeability. And unlike many soils, it is sterile, non-toxic and uncontaminated, so there is no need to worry about succulents contracting diseases.

2. Akadama: This soil is made of accumulated volcanic ash and is widely used in Japan, but it is usually mixed with other planting materials, accounting for no more than about 35%. It is divided into two types: medium grain and fine grain. The diameter of medium grain is between 2-6.5 mm, and the diameter of fine grain is only 1-2 mm. Medium grain is usually used for growing succulents.

3. Kanuma soil: Kanuma soil is produced in Japan. It has round particles and many pores. It has good air permeability and good water retention. It is worth mentioning that this kind of soil is highly acidic, so do not use too much when planting succulents. In addition, as a paving surface, it will turn golden after watering, which looks very beautiful.
