Podocarpus cutting time and method

Podocarpus cutting time and method

Podocarpus cutting time

The best time for Podocarpus cuttings is spring and autumn. April is the best time for spring and September is the best time for autumn. The temperature is cool and the air is dry during these two periods, which is conducive to the survival of Podocarpus.

Podocarpus cutting method

1. Cutting medium

Podocarpus is not very demanding on the substrate for cuttings. You can choose coarser river sand or mix it with some garden soil. The substrate needs to be exposed to the sun for 2 days to sterilize. It is best to spray disinfectant and then dry it in the sun. This way the soil is more conducive to the survival of branches. The flowerpots used for cuttings can be larger and deeper.

2. Processing of cuttings

Select 5-8 branches that are already lignified and have many branches. Such branches have strong germination ability and are easy to survive. The length of each branch is about 10 cm. Soak the cut section in rooting water for 2-3 hours. After taking out the branches, place them in a ventilated and shaded place to dry for later use.

3. Take cuttings

Insert one end of the prepared branch cut 5 cm into the soil and gently compact the surrounding soil. Spray water on the leaves and soil surface of Podocarpus carpus every morning to keep the air and soil moist.

Maintenance of Podocarpus after cutting

After Podocarpus is cut, it can be placed in a shaded, ventilated and warm place for maintenance. The humidity must be maintained during maintenance. It can be covered with a plastic bag to keep it moist. The humidity is best at 80%. After it takes root, the plastic bag should be opened to provide a certain amount of light maintenance.
