When is the best time to repot succulents? Can succulents be repotted in November?

1. Time to change pots

The time to repot succulent plants is generally in spring and autumn. Because the temperature is too high in summer, the plant enters a dormant state. It is not easy to survive the summer safely, let alone toss it at this time. Repotting at this time may not only make it impossible to survive, but also affect its subsequent growth. The temperature is too low in winter, and it is also difficult to adapt the plant to the new pot. However, for home cultivation, as long as the temperature is controlled well, the time requirement is not strict.

2. Stop water and remove basin

Before you repot your succulent plant, stop watering it and let the soil dry so that it will be easier to remove from the pot. Loosen the soil around the plant, take it out of the pot, and place it in a basin of clean water. Let the roots soak in the water and wash off the sticky soil. This will remove any germs and insect eggs that may be in the original soil. After washing the roots, you can check them again, cut off the bad roots with scissors, and place the plants in a ventilated place to dry.

3. Pot soil preparation

In addition to the fact that the growth of the plants is restricted, another reason for repotting succulents is that the soil quality has deteriorated, so it is necessary to replace it with a loose and fertile substrate. Generally, potting soil is made by mixing coconut coir and perlite in a ratio of 2:1. If conditions permit, you can also use peat soil instead of coconut coir, with the ratio of peat soil to perlite being 3:2 or 1:1.

4. Planting in pots

Once the roots are dry, you can plant them. Place the plant upright in the flowerpot and fill it with the prepared new soil. The larger particles should be buried in the bottom layer, and the small particles should be used as a substrate on top. After potting, compact the soil and spray a layer of fungicide to ensure that the substrate is slightly moist. Place the plant in a place with scattered light, maintain good ventilation, and water it after a week.
