When is the best time to plant lilies?

Lilies are a popular choice in home gardening because of their gorgeous flowers and fragrant aroma. Not only are they beautiful in appearance, but they also symbolize lasting harmony and happiness, making lilies a favorite indoor potted plant in many homes. So when is the best time to plant lilies?

When is the best time to plant lilies?

Usually, the best time to plant lily bulbs is in early spring, when nature is resurrecting and the germination rate of plants is highest. For lily bulbs that have not been cold-treated, the best planting time is October to November. Under suitable conditions, it takes about two to three months from planting to flowering.

Lily planting technology

1. Container selection

Lilies have relatively loose requirements for flower pots, and ordinary plastic pots or gallon pots can meet their needs. It is important to choose the right pot diameter. Generally speaking, a pot with a diameter of 22 cm to 24 cm is suitable for growing three lilies.

2. Soil conditions

Lilies prefer slightly acidic soil that is rich in humus, has a deep soil layer, and is well drained and aerated. The ideal soil pH range is 5.5 to 6.5. Before planting, the soil should be disinfected to reduce the occurrence of diseases.

3. Bulb processing

Before planting lily bulbs, they should be thawed in an environment of 10 to 25 degrees Celsius and disinfected. When planting, the old roots on the bulbs should be cut off to promote the growth of new roots. At the same time, pay attention to maintaining appropriate spacing between plants to avoid overcrowding that affects light.

4. Daily management

After planting lilies, water them regularly to keep the soil slightly moist. Fertilize approximately every 15 days. Organic fertilizer or compound fertilizer is recommended. Lilies need sufficient light during their growing period, but should avoid direct exposure to strong sunlight in summer to prevent damage to the leaves and affect the appearance of the plant.

In general, lilies, as a popular potted plant, are a hot choice in the flower market and are not complicated to grow.
