Grafting Techniques of Golden Balls

Here we take the potted golden marble stump as an example to introduce and explain.

It is generally necessary to retain 3-5 strong branches for the golden marble stump, and those branches that are not used for grafting should be cut off from the base. The strength of the remaining branches needs to be appropriately reduced, and the base should be retained at about 5 cm. Then use a sharp cutting knife to make a vertical cut along the center of the cross section, with a cut depth of about 2 cm. Be careful not to make it too deep.

Afterwards, cut thick branches from the female plants that have reached the fruit-bearing age. The thickness can refer to the grafted rootstock branches, which will be fine. It is better to have a terminal bud of about 5 cm in length and 4-5 axillary buds, as this will have a higher success rate. Then use a sterilized blade to scrape away the cortex on both sides of the base of the scion. The cut surface should be about 2 cm long and basically the same depth as the split of the rootstock. Cut until the wood is slightly exposed. Then insert the wedge-shaped end of the cut scion base into the cleft of the rootstock, aligning the cambium on at least one side, and then use the binding tape to tie the rootstock-scion joint.

Finally, put on the plastic bag, cover the entire scion (including the joint between the stock and scion), and tie the plastic bag tightly. As long as you pay a little attention to the later management and care, the grafting will basically be successful. Of course, patience is essential during the grafting process.
