The cultivation prospects and key points of cultivation technology of straw mushroom

Straw mushroom is a common edible fungus . It is not only delicious, but also has tender, crispy and smooth flesh. Its nutritional value is impeccable, and therefore it is favored by consumers. Similarly, there are a lot of people who grow straw mushrooms. So what are the prospects for growing straw mushrooms and the key points of growing techniques ? Let’s learn more about it below.

The Prospects of Straw Mushroom Cultivation

The prospects for cultivating straw mushrooms are still very broad. Firstly, China is a major producer of straw mushrooms, and artificial cultivation has a long history. Secondly, thanks to the delicious and nutritious characteristics of straw mushrooms, the market demand for straw mushrooms is very high. In the catering industry, food processing industry and retail market, straw mushrooms are widely used. Thirdly, straw mushrooms have high commodity value and are a traditional export commodity in China. Whether they are fresh mushrooms, dried mushrooms or canned mushrooms, they enjoy a high reputation in the international market. Fourthly, straw mushrooms have strong adaptability, strong resistance to high temperatures, wide adaptability, low investment, quick results, and high efficiency. They are the fastest-yielding edible fungi.

The cultivation technology of straw mushroom

1. Site selection

The cultivation site should be selected in a sunny, windproof, fertile and water-sufficient place. The beds are made 5 feet wide, unlimited in length, and 6-7 inches high (usually east-west, and north-south when the temperature is high). Crush the soil on the bed into a turtle-back shape, then sprinkle tea seed cake on it to kill underground pests.

2. Cultivation material formula

The raw materials for straw mushroom cultivation are very wide, mainly including rice straw, cottonseed hulls , waste cotton residue , wheat straw, peanut shells, corn cobs, corn stalks, sugarcane bagasse, etc. The most appropriate choice can be made based on local production practices. The generally recommended formula is: 80% grass + 5% dry cow dung + 8% bran + 2% gypsum powder + 5% lime.

3. Planting time

Volvariella is a type of mushroom that prefers high temperature, high humidity and grass-decomposition. The best mycelium growth temperature is 28-35℃, and the best mushroom fruiting temperature is 30-35℃. Summer cultivation can be carried out in Guangxi from May to October. If heating equipment is used, production can be carried out all year round.

4. Cultivation methods

Generally, the method of secondary fermentation of raw materials can be adopted. After the secondary fermentation, the carbon monoxide must be dissipated. When the material temperature is 36℃-38℃, the room temperature is 34℃-35℃, and the moisture content of the material is 65%, sowing can be carried out. You can choose to sow the appropriate age strains when the mycelium has filled the culture bottle (bag) and started to grow back. The sowing methods include spot sowing, row sowing and broadcast sowing. However, in actual operation, broadcasting is more effective, convenient and quick, and the seed amount is about 10% of the dry weight of the culture medium.

To sum up, the prospects for straw mushroom cultivation are very good. Whether from the perspective of market demand, commodity value and cultivation adaptability, straw mushrooms have huge development potential. Moreover, compared with other edible fungi, the cultivation of straw mushrooms is also easier to succeed. However, it is more difficult to obtain high yield and high quality of straw mushrooms, which requires scientific management.
