Artificial breeding technology of bullfrog

Artificial breeding technology of bullfrog

The bullfrog is a large edible frog with a very strong reproductive capacity. Its meat is tender, delicious, nutritious, has certain medicinal value, and has high breeding efficiency. Below, I will introduce the artificial breeding technology of bullfrogs, let’s take a look.

1. Farm selection

Bullfrogs are amphibians, so when choosing a breeding site, we should try our best to meet their living habits. We should choose a place with a quiet environment, sheltered from the wind and facing the sun, warm in winter and cool in summer, and convenient transportation. Bullfrog breeding cannot be separated from water, and the water quality requirements are relatively high. Therefore, the breeding site must have a water source and convenient irrigation and drainage. It is best to build a pond for breeding in a river, lake, reservoir or flowing spring with good water quality and no pollution.

2. Construction of breeding pond

The area of the breeding pond should not be too large, generally around 1,000 to 2,000 square meters. The frog pond is surrounded by a red brick wall. The above-ground part of the wall is 1.5 meters high and 40 centimeters deep underground to prevent bullfrogs from digging holes and escaping. A 2-meter-wide sloping space is left between the frog pond and the wall, on which some plants or weeds are planted for bullfrogs to rest or hunt, and water lilies are planted at the four corners of the frog pond. There are trees or shade sheds outside the wall.

3. Stocking of seedlings

The frog pond should be disinfected half a month before stocking the seedlings. Sprinkle 50 kg of quicklime per acre throughout the pond. After 10 days, the bullfrog seedlings can be released. Stocking density: 50 young frogs weighing 50 grams are stocked per square meter. 20 young frogs weighing 100 grams are stocked per square meter. When stocked, the young frogs were soaked in 20 mg/L potassium permanganate solution for 10 minutes.

4. Feeding management

Bullfrog feed is a combination of animal bait and compound feed . Animal baits include natural baits such as moths, caterpillars, locusts, small fish, etc. Artificial baits such as earthworms, mealworms , silkworm pupae, and animal offal. Compound feed is puffed granular bait. Animal bait is the main feed and compound feed is the supplementary feed. It is fed three times a day, that is, twice with animal bait and once with compound feed.

5. Disease prevention and treatment

In the process of bullfrog breeding, we must adhere to the principle of "prevention first, combining prevention with treatment". Before stocking, clean and disinfect the pond with quicklime or bleaching powder to kill harmful organisms and pathogens. Regularly spray the entire pond with bleaching powder or strong chlorine to disinfect it. After dividing the pools, the frog bodies should be disinfected with 20ppm potassium permanganate in time to prevent mechanical damage that may cause the spread of pathogens. Find sick or dead frogs and isolate them promptly.

The above is the artificial breeding technology of bullfrogs. Bullfrogs grow very fast. Generally, a 50-gram young frog can be caught and put on the market after being bred for 7 months and its weight reaches more than 250 grams.
