Water and fertilizer management technology for wax apple

Wax apple is a tropical fruit with very high nutritional value. The fruit tastes sweet and has an apple aroma. According to normal growth, wax apple usually blooms in March and April every year, and bears fruit in July and August. Below, the editor will introduce the water and fertilizer management technology of wax apple, let’s take a look.

1. Fertilization management

1. Fertilizing young trees

When fertilizing young wax apple trees, the principle of frequent and thin applications should be followed, with nitrogen and potassium fertilizers as the main fertilizers to promote the growth of young trees. Do not apply fertilizer to avoid root burn, which will lead to poor root growth and, in severe cases, the death of the young trees. Generally, within half a year after planting, apply animal manure fertilizer with a concentration of 10%-15% once a month. This can promote the growth of new roots and shoots of young trees. After that, apply fertilizer once every 1-2 months, generally before the new shoots sprout, to provide sufficient nutrients for the growth of new shoots.

2. Apply fertilizer in stages

Wax apple requires a large amount of fertilizer. In the early stage, more phosphorus and potassium fertilizers should be applied. When the flower buds are differentiating, attention should be paid to the application amount of nitrogen fertilizer. If excessive nitrogen fertilizer is applied, it will cause vigorous growth and leggy growth. After the fruit is enlarged, apply phosphorus and potassium fertilizers again to promote fruit development and improve yield and quality. Generally, nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium are applied before the crops open, each accounting for 50% of the total fertilizer application. The remaining nitrogen fertilizer and 25% of phosphorus and potassium fertilizers are applied during the flowering and fruiting period, and the remaining 25% of phosphorus and potassium fertilizers are applied during the harvest period.

3. Foliar spraying

When there are many fruit-bearing trees, the nutrients absorbed by the roots cannot meet the growth and development of the fruits. At this time, you can maintain nitrogen, phosphorus and trace elements in the plants by spraying fertilizer on the leaves. In addition, when planting in coastal areas, the soil salt content is relatively high, so fresh water should be used to wash away the salt, reduce the salt content of the soil, improve the soil structure, and enable the plants to grow normally.

2. Watering management

The roots of wax apple are relatively shallow. It likes moisture and is afraid of drought. During the growth and fruiting stage, the soil moisture content should be maintained at a certain level and watering should be done frequently. When the fruit is ripe, watering should be properly controlled. The orchard soil should be irrigated frequently to keep shallow water moist, but water should not accumulate. It should be drained in time during the rainy season. The temperature is low in winter and spring, the air humidity in the greenhouse is high, and the evaporation of the plants is small. You just need to control watering and keep the soil moist.

The above is the water and fertilizer management technology for wax apples. Wax apples grow fast and require a large amount of fertilizer. Young trees need nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, but they should be applied frequently and thinly, especially organic fertilizers . For fruiting trees over 5 years old, nitrogen and potassium fertilizers are important.
