How to grow Patchouli

How to grow Patchouli

1. Maintenance methods

1. Temperature: Place it in an environment with a temperature between 16 and 25 degrees, it will be easier to bloom. It has good cold resistance and will not be frozen even at zero degrees, so during the winter you only need to keep the temperature above zero degrees. The temperature is too high in summer, so you need to spray water mist around it to cool it down.

2. Watering: Its roots are very sensitive to water and are particularly prone to root rot. Therefore, the time of watering should be based on the specific situation. When the weather is hot, it is necessary to water it every other day. When the temperature is low, water it once or twice a week. Each time you water it, just water the soil thoroughly. There should be no water accumulation in the pot.

3. Fertilization: During the growing season, you only need to add organic fertilizer to the soil once a month. No fertilizer is required during the non-growing season. In addition to fertilizing the roots, you also need to fertilize the branches and leaves once a month. In addition to those sold on the market, you can also make your own, such as leftover beer, which can be diluted with water and sprayed on the plants.

4. Light: It is suitable for growing in an environment with sufficient sunlight and bright light. Except for the need for appropriate shade during the high temperatures in summer, it can receive normal light at other times.

2. Breeding techniques

1. Reproduction: You can use the sowing method to propagate Patchouli. Its seeds generally mature in August or September. After the seeds mature, sprinkle them directly into a cultivation medium with sufficient nutrients and moist soil, and then cover them with a thin layer of soil. Seedlings will emerge in three or four days.

2. Repotting: It is a perennial plant and needs to be repotted every year. The time for repotting is generally during the growing season. When changing the soil, you need to be careful not to damage the roots. After repotting, it needs to be placed in a cool place to slow down the growth of the seedlings, and then you can cultivate it normally.

3. Problem Diagnosis

1. Pests: It is susceptible to leaf spot disease. Once discovered, it needs to be sprayed with carbendazim solution for treatment.

2. Pruning: When pruning Patchouli, you only need to cut off the overly lush or dead branches and leaves. One is to avoid excessive dispersion of nutrients, and the other is to prevent healthy branches from being infected by pests and diseases.

IV. Other issues

1. Can it be grown at home? Its taste is very refreshing and it is not very picky about the growing environment, so it can be grown indoors. However, because its smell is relatively strong, it needs to be ventilated frequently to avoid discomfort caused by the strong smell.

2. Toxicity: It is non-toxic. Not only is it non-toxic, its branches, leaves, and stems can all be used as medicine.
