How to grow Phlox

How to grow Phlox

1. Maintenance methods

1. Temperature: April to October is its growing season, and the temperature needs to be maintained between 14 and 30 degrees. From October to April of the year, the temperature needs to be maintained between 13 and 20 degrees. It is not resistant to low temperatures, and the safe temperature for wintering is above 10 degrees. If the temperature is lower than the limit, the plant will easily be frostbitten.

2. Watering: It likes moisture and needs to keep the soil moist at more than 50% for a long time. It needs to be watered once every other day. The water temperature should be consistent with the maintenance temperature. If the temperature exceeds 25 degrees, the plant needs to be sprayed with water in the morning and evening to maintain moisture.

3. Fertilization: April to June is its vigorous growth period, and the demand for nutrients is relatively large. The nutrients in the soil alone are not enough. It is necessary to fertilize it with fertilizer cake water once a month, or you can use low-concentration fermented fertilizer. No fertilizer is needed during the non-growing season, and topdressing is required once before winter to ensure the nutrient supply for the plants to overwinter.

4. Light: The plant needs sufficient light to grow. Insufficient light will cause the plant to be short and the branches and leaves to dry and shapeless. The daily light exposure should not be less than five hours. It should be properly shaded in summer and placed in a place with sufficient light in winter.

2. Breeding techniques

1. Repotting: Depending on its growth situation, the soil needs to be loosened once a month to keep the soil at a certain looseness, which can increase the oxygen content in the soil. It does not grow fast, so generally it is sufficient to repot once a year. When repotting, base fertilizer should be applied to the soil to provide for the growth of the plant.

2. Pruning: There is no fixed pruning time. As long as you find that the leaves are turning yellow and dry, it means pruning is needed. When pruning, just cut off the problematic branches and leaves.

3. Problem Diagnosis

1. Yellowing leaves: The problem of yellowing leaves may be due to insufficient light. The daily lighting time should not be less than five hours. In autumn and winter, the time should be appropriately extended to not less than seven hours a day.

2. Root rot: Root rot may be caused by excessive watering. If root rot occurs, you should first dig it out, trim the rotten part, then disinfect the cut, and replant it after it has been properly treated.

IV. Other issues

1. Toxicity: Its branches and leaves are not poisonous, but the juice is poisonous. If it accidentally sticks to your skin, rinse it immediately with clean water and see a doctor as soon as possible.

2. Edibility: It is not edible.
