How to graft a persimmon tree

How to graft a persimmon tree

Persimmon trees are a common fruit tree in rural areas. Many persimmons are sour and difficult to eat, and the yield is also low, so grafting is an important part of the persimmon planting process, which can improve the yield and taste of the persimmon tree.

Persimmon tree grafting time

The time for grafting persimmon trees is generally from March to April every year. At this time, the branches begin to sprout, there are more sufficient nutrients, and the humidity in the air is relatively high. The survival rate of persimmon trees is the highest after grafting.

Persimmon tree grafting technology

1. Branch grafting

First, find old and healthy branches as scion, split the branches, choose a sturdy rootstock, cut it at a smooth and straight place 5-10 cm from the ground, cut the lower end of the scion into a wedge shape, the scion is required to have 2-3 fully grown buds, insert it into the narrow gap, and that's it.

2. Bud grafting

For the bud grafting method, find one-year-old branches and use the full buds that are not yet sprouting as the grafting buds. Then cut an I-shaped opening about 2 cm long and 1.5 cm wide on the smooth part of the rootstock, and cut a bud piece of the same size as the rootstock on the scion, insert it into the incision, wrap the bud piece with the rootstock bark, remove the excess rootstock bark, expose the bud outside, and then tie it up with plastic film.
