Plum grafting time and method

Plum grafting time and method

1. Time

When grafting, different methods and times are used. If you want to use the belly cutting method or the bark insertion method, you can do it in March in spring. If you want to use bud grafting, you can choose July as the time. If you use the bud grafting method of the wood, it is better to do it in September in autumn.

2. Methods

1. Rootstock: Usually, the rootstock used for grafting should be in healthy condition and then sawed off at a height of about 6-10 cm from the ground.

2. Scion: The scion used should be strong and have full buds. There should be 5-7 buds on the scion, and the length should be about 7-10cm. Grafting needs to be done as soon as possible after cutting. If grafting is not done at that time, wrap it with a wet towel to prevent moisture evaporation.

3. Grafting: When starting to graft, water it, use a sharp knife to flatten the rootstock, and then make a 3cm wound. The bottom of the scion also needs to be cut to the same length as the wound on the rootstock. The bottom should be cut into a wedge shape, then inserted into the cut of the rootstock and wrapped in a plastic bag.
