How to propagate Gloxinia

How to propagate Gloxinia

1. Seeding method

This requires selecting some seeds that grow well and soaking them for about a day. This will encourage them to germinate. But don't add too much water. After that you need to prepare the flower pot and put soil in it. After leveling the soil, sprinkle the seeds on it, then moisten the flowerpot with water, cover it with glass, and place it in an environment of 18 to 20 degrees. It will germinate in about ten days.

2. Ball division method

The bulbs are required to be grown for two or three years and be dormant. The next step is to bury it in the soil, then water it thoroughly and place it in a room at 22℃ for germination. When the bud grows to about 0.5 cm, dig out the bulb and cut it into two to four pieces. Note that each piece must have at least one bud. Place each piece in a new pot to form a new plant. This is done in autumn.

3. Branch cutting method

Select the young branches that have just sprouted from its bulb, with a length of two to three centimeters, and insert them into fine sand or soil. Then place it in a place where there is sunlight but not direct sunlight, and keep the temperature between 18 and 20 degrees. It will grow roots in about 15 days.

4. Leaf cutting method

The leaves need to be strong and have grown for a while. Take it down together with the petiole, cut off half of the leaves, and plant it in the substrate at an angle. Keep the soil moist, then cover it with glass and keep it in a cool environment. Maintain the room temperature at 25℃ and high humidity. The roots will grow in about 20 days after planting.

5. Bud grafting method

This operation is usually carried out in spring. The new shoots that sprout from the bulbs should be about four or six centimeters long. Then break off the new shoots and insert them into the soil, and keep the soil moist. If carefully cared for, they will bloom in June or July of the following year.
