Does Lithops produce seeds after flowering?

Does Lithops produce seeds after flowering?

1. Are there seeds?

Lithops does not necessarily produce seeds after flowering. In order for it to produce seeds, it must be pollinated. Since it cannot complete cross-pollination, at least two plants are required. If their flowering periods are close together, they can cross-pollinate. If you miss the flowering period, you need to collect the pollen and refrigerate it, and then sprinkle it when it blooms.

2. How to collect seeds

1. Pick the flowers in time: If the petals of Lithops become darker in color and irregular in shape, it means that pollination is successful. After that, the petals should be removed so that the ovary can receive light and make the seeds grow fuller.

2. Seed collection time: Seed collection time is usually at the turn of spring and summer. The seed pods are now mature and need to be picked and preserved. Be careful when picking it so as not to break it to prevent its seeds from falling out.

3. Soak in water to obtain seeds: Collect the collected seed pods and put them in a large basin of cold water. The seed pods will slowly open after being soaked in water. Take them out and squeeze them to separate the seeds from the seed pods. Remove the impurities on the top and the seeds will fall to the bottom of the pot.

4. Refrigerate: After draining the water, you can take out the seeds. After taking out, place them in a ventilated place to dry, then put the seeds in a bag, refrigerate them, and wait until sowing in autumn.
