How to grow cucumbers to get high yield?

How to grow cucumbers to get high yield?

Cucumbers are widely distributed in the north and south and have a long history of cultivation. Cucumbers have their own specific management methods, but the final quantity, quality and taste of the cucumber fruits harvested depend largely on the experience of the grower. So, how can we grow cucumbers to achieve high yields?

1. Timely pruning, pinching and picking

Many people tend to let these melons grow naturally when growing them, which will result in fewer melons, low yields and poor quality. To promote balanced growth, pinching and leaf picking are necessary. When the main cucumber vine grows to 25 leaves, pinch the heart. This will make the main stem thicker, promote the growth of side branches, and thus produce more cucumbers. At the same time, timely removal of old and diseased leaves can save nutrients, increase ventilation and light, and is beneficial to the healthy growth of plants.

2. Pick melons in time

Many growers are reluctant to pick the melons when they are ripe, which will affect the normal growth of the young melons, causing bent or deformed melons, and even affecting the reproductive growth of the plants, reducing subsequent flowering and fruiting. Therefore, once melons grow to edible size, they should be picked as soon as possible to preserve nutrients for subsequent growth. After picking, apply fertilizer and water in time to meet the needs of the plants.

3. Combining pest control with foliar fertilization

Crops need sufficient nutrients to grow, but they may also be attacked by pests and diseases. Once diseases and insect pests occur, measures should be taken as soon as possible, appropriate drugs should be selected for treatment, and foliar fertilization should be combined to improve the plant's disease resistance, promote healthy growth of the plant, and increase yield.

Before cucumbers bloom but before they set, you can prepare your own foliar fertilizers, such as 0.2% potassium dihydrogen phosphate, 0.2% urea, 0.3% glucose powder, 0.2% rice vinegar, etc., and spray them evenly on the leaves. This will help prevent premature aging of the leaves, enhance the plant's resistance to stress, and increase the number and taste of the fruits.

4. Pay attention to root protection and root nourishment

As plants grow, their roots age. In order to maintain the vitality of the root system, in addition to timely fertilization after the fruit is formed, you can also use some biological agents or rooting fertilizers with rooting effects to irrigate the roots, or mix them with fertilizers for topdressing to promote secondary development of the root system.

The above planting and management techniques can be flexibly applied and adjusted according to the growth of the plants. If you have any questions or need further help, please leave a comment below.
