When to fertilize gardenia

When to fertilize gardenia

1. Before planting

Before the first planting, sufficient base fertilizer needs to be applied. This is an important factor to ensure subsequent growth. Even if fertilizer is not applied in time, there is base fertilizer to ensure growth, and the branches will not become weak or the flowers will not be difficult to bloom. The base fertilizer can be decomposed organic fertilizer, such as cow dung, sheep dung, or bean dregs, but it cannot come into direct contact with the root system and needs to be padded with loam in the middle.

2. Vigorous growth period

It likes fertilizer very much. During the vigorous growth stage, its germination ability is very strong and it needs sufficient nutrients to grow. It needs to be fertilized every 10 days. Cake fertilizer can be used. Note that it should be watered thoroughly after fertilizing to ensure that the fertilizer can fully play its role. Although it needs fertilizer at this time, it cannot be too concentrated or too much.

3. Before flowering

Fertilizer should be applied before flowering. Blooming flowers will consume a lot of nutrients. In order for them to bloom normally, phosphorus and potassium fertilizers should be applied in time. These two fertilizers can help flowers form and bloom, but do not apply them once flower buds appear, as this will easily cause them to fall off.

4. When changing pots

After a few years of care, the potting soil needs to be replaced. In addition to the base fertilizer, appropriate nutrients should be added after the plant adapts to the new pot.
