Rose bud grafting steps

Rose bud grafting steps

1. Time Selection

The most suitable season for bud grafting is from mid-May to mid-June. During this period, the temperature is just right, the rainy season has not officially arrived, and there will be no waterlogging, so the survival rate will be relatively high.

2. Rootstock Selection

The rootstock for bud grafting is rose, which must be of good quality and free of diseases and insect pests. The thickness cannot be too thin, at least around 0.5 cm, so as to ensure the success rate of subsequent operations.

3. Branch and bud selection

The scion should be a full branch that has bloomed and is about 30 cm long. Cut the leaves and peel off the outer thorns. Select buds from the middle part of the branch and observe whether they have a sprouting trend and look relatively swollen. Cut from 1 cm above the bud, through the wood partway, and continue cutting to 2 cm below the branch bud. Hold the petiole with one hand and quickly peel off the woody part, being careful not to damage the bud. If you are not in a hurry to bud graft, you can wrap it in a wet towel first.

4. Bud grafting

The location for bud grafting is chosen close to the ground, so that not only can the buds be inserted, but it is also convenient to bury them in the soil. Make a T-shape cut on the rootstock bark, lift the bark with a thin horny handle, embed the branch buds, and tie the two together with a plastic bag so that they fit closely.
