Should I use a shallow or deep pot for wintersweet? What size pot should I use?

1. Should I use a shallow or deep basin?

Generally speaking, it is better to use shallow pots for wintersweets, and the bonsai grown from them are more ornamental. However, if you are planting it in a pot, you can choose a slightly deeper pot. If the flowerpot used is too deep, the planting soil inside will become very moist and the roots will easily rot. If you don't want to use a shallow pot, the soil you use must be breathable enough and have better drainage, and you can add more coarse sand.

Using a shallow pot will look better and you don’t have to worry about root rot, but it shouldn’t be too shallow, and the depth should not be less than 15 cm. Otherwise, it will be difficult to manage on a daily basis. You can choose a clay pot, a purple sand pot, a mud pot or a plastic pot, as long as the size is suitable for you.

2. How big a basin should I use?

The flowerpot used should not be too big or too small. The flowerpot should be chosen according to the size of the wintersweet. Usually, the diameter of the flower pot should be around 25-30cm. A flower pot that is too small or too large will affect the growth of the plant. When you first start planting, you can use a smaller flowerpot. When it grows up, you can change the pot. As long as you change it to a larger pot in time, there will be no impact.
