How to grow konjac to achieve high yield?

Konjac can be processed into konjac tofu , konjac shreds and many other agricultural and sideline products that are very popular in today's consumer market. The cultivation of konjac is also a science that requires meticulous management. If you want to obtain high-yield and high-quality konjac, let’s learn how to grow konjac to achieve high yield.

1. Choose a suitable growing environment

Konjac prefers warm climates and cannot tolerate cold weather. Before planting, you must choose an environment suitable for the growth of konjac, and avoid places where the temperature is below 0 degrees Celsius to prevent the konjac from being frozen.

2. Control the ambient temperature

The minimum growth temperature of konjac should not be lower than 0 degrees Celsius, otherwise it will enter a dormant state. The temperature should be maintained at at least 0 degrees Celsius in winter to ensure that the konjac can quickly resume growth when the temperature rises in spring. The temperature range in which konjac grows fastest is 20 to 30 degrees Celsius. Temperatures that are too high or too low will affect its growth. When the summer temperature exceeds 40 degrees Celsius, cooling measures should be taken.

3. Reasonable lighting

Konjac does not like strong direct sunlight. When planting, you should choose a place with shorter light hours, such as a hillside, and avoid open areas. Strong direct sunlight in summer will increase the temperature of konjac and affect its growth. The ideal growing environment is one that receives half a day of sunlight, or where the sun rises early and sets early. Interplant with taller plants, such as corn or sunflowers , to provide shade.

4. Moisture Management

The root system of konjac is not well developed and it has high requirements for water. It is neither waterlogging nor drought tolerant. Appropriate humidity should be maintained during planting, watering is required frequently in arid areas , and planting is not suitable in flooded areas. Too much water will affect root respiration and limit the growth of the above-ground part.

5. Choose the right soil

Konjac has high requirements for soil and needs deep, loose and fertile soil. The suitable soil type is brown loam with more humus, followed by red brown soil and purple red soil, and yellow loam is the worst. Soil pH should be maintained between 6.5 and 7.5.

6. Adequate nutrients

As a bulb plant, konjac requires more nutrients than other crops during its growth. In addition to potassium fertilizer and nitrogen fertilizer, fertilizer should also be applied according to the proportion to avoid random fertilization.

7. Avoid repeated planting

Konjac is not suitable for continuous planting. Continuous planting will result in a significant decrease in the yield of the second crop of konjac because the growing environment of the second crop is not as good as the first crop.

In short, understanding the growth habits of konjac and formulating a suitable planting environment and method based on its habits is the key to achieving high yields and ensuring quality of konjac.
