How many days does it take for soybeans to germinate?

Soybean is an important crop. It is the raw material for producing soybean oil and has extremely high economic value. In the process of planting soybeans, it is very important to understand the germination process of soybeans and the time required. So how many days does it usually take for soybeans to germinate? Let’s learn more about it below.

How many days does it take for soybeans to germinate?

The time it takes for soybeans to germinate depends on a variety of factors, including temperature, humidity, the freshness of the soybeans, and how they are processed. Generally speaking, it takes about 3-5 days for soybeans to start germinating under suitable temperature (about 20-25 degrees Celsius) and humidity conditions. If temperatures are lower, germination time may be extended.

How to grow soybeans so they germinate quickly?

1. Seed selection

Choose soybeans that are fresh, plump, bright in color, free of insects and mold. Such soybeans have strong vitality, high germination rate, and strong sprouts .

2. Soak

Put soybeans in a container and soak them in clean water. The soaking time is adjusted according to the temperature. In summer, soak for about 12 hours, and in winter it can be extended to 24 hours. When soaking, the water should cover the beans by two fingers so that the soybeans can fully absorb water and expand.

3. Germination

Put the soaked soybeans in a fresh-keeping bag and then put them in the refrigerator for low-temperature germination, or at room temperature for germination. The low temperature germination time may be longer, so you need to be patient. When germinating at room temperature, the temperature must be controlled to avoid excessively high or low temperatures that affect the germination rate.

4. Shading

Soybean germination needs to be done in a dark place, avoiding direct sunlight, otherwise the bean sprouts will easily turn red and fibrous, affecting the taste and nutrition. You can choose a cool and ventilated place, such as a corner of the house, a storage room, etc.

5. Harvest

When the bean sprouts reach 1-2 cm in length, are plump white and have slightly yellow tips, they can be harvested. Be sure to harvest in time for consumption or for further planting.

In general, it usually takes 3-5 days from planting soybeans to see them germinate. But to encourage soybean germination, you can soak the beans in water, usually for 8-12 hours, until they swell and crack. After that, place the soybeans on moist gauze or paper towels, maintain appropriate temperature and humidity, and wait for them to germinate. Remember to check and spray water every day to keep moist and prevent the soybeans from drying out.
