Milan pests and control methods

Scale insects

Hazard manifestations

There are many types of scale insects, and the ones that harm Milan flowers include the cottony scale and the brown soft scale. The insects mainly gather on the back of leaves or on the tips of branches and suck the leaves, often causing the leaves to turn yellow and the tips to wither, leading to leaf fall or death of the entire plant. Scale insects may also induce sooty mold disease of Milan, affecting the photosynthesis of the plant and greatly reducing its ornamental value.

Prevention and treatment methods

Check in time, strengthen management, check the branches and trunks of the plants in time before autumn, and remove insects immediately if found. When a small number of insects are found, they can be removed with a soft brush, or combined with pruning, the branches with the insects can be cut off.

Spray the pesticide in time. When no insects are found, spray 50% malathion emulsifiable concentrate once every 10 days, and spray 2 to 3 times in a row. If scale insects have already formed, you can bury the medicine in the soil. You can consult the flower pharmacy for specific medicines.

aphid

Aphids are quite common for Milan. When the disease occurs, the leaves will be covered with white insects, which looks a bit disgusting. But the method to clear it is also very simple. You can wipe it off with soapy water, or spray it with 800 times diluted aphidicide. When there are fewer insects, it is recommended to remove them manually and spray less pesticides.

Red Spider

Milan plants grown at home are less likely to be infested with red spider mites, but if they are placed on an open balcony, it is hard to say. The wind and air outside can bring germs at any time. Once red spider mites are found on the plants, spray the pesticide immediately and pay attention to the concentration in the early stage. After spraying the medicine, be sure to place it in a ventilated place to avoid affecting the environment.
