Common diseases of Saxifraga and their control methods

Common diseases of Saxifrage: Botrytis cinerea

Symptoms

Gray mold mainly harms leaves. The spots often occur along the leaf margins and are semicircular, circular to irregular in shape, water-soaked, and dark green to brown. When the humidity is high, the diseased part spreads rapidly. In severe cases, the entire leaf turns dark brown and rots, and a gray mold layer grows on the diseased part.

Prevention and treatment methods

Once the spots are found, the diseased leaves should be cut off in time. Strengthen ventilation and maintain appropriate humidity in the soil and growing space.

For chemical control, you can choose 800 times diluted 28% Botrytis cinerea wettable powder. When spraying the pesticide, be careful not to spray it on the center of the leaves to avoid causing the center of the leaves to turn black.

Common diseases of saxifrage: powdery mildew

Symptoms

Powdery mildew occurs on leaves, young stems, pedicels, buds, petals and other parts of the body. In the early stages, it appears as small, irregular yellow-green spots with unclear edges. Then the lesions continued to expand, white powdery spots appeared on the surface, and finally countless black spots grew there.

The infected area turns gray, covering the surface in a continuous patch, with unclear edges, and is dirty white or light grayish white. When the damage is severe, the leaves shrink and become smaller, the tender shoots become twisted and deformed, and the flower buds do not bloom.

Prevention and treatment methods

During the growing season, you can spray Benomyl for prevention by brushing it on the stems of the plants.

When the disease is at its peak, spray 1000 times diluted 15% triadimefon, 200 times diluted 2% antimycotic aqueous solution, and 1000 to 1500 times diluted 10% polyoxin.

Repeated use of traditional medicines will cause the bacteria to produce antibodies, which will greatly reduce their effectiveness, so alternating use is recommended.

Alternatively, you can also use 1000 times diluted white wine (alcohol content 35%), spray once every 3 to 6 days, spray 3 to 6 times continuously, and rinse the leaves until there is no white powder.
