How to grow fig potted plants

How to grow fig potted plants

1. Potting soil

Its root system is relatively developed, so when growing it in a potted plant, you should use a larger pot to provide enough space for growth. The soil should be loose and breathable. It can be prepared by mixing sand, pond mud and coal slag.

2. Watering

Although it likes a humid environment, it is very afraid of waterlogging in the pot soil, so be sure to check the condition of the pot soil before watering. Usually water it two or three times a week in spring and autumn. Water it more often in summer, once in the morning and once in the evening. In winter, control the amount of watering and do not water it unless the soil is dry.

3. Temperature

It likes warm environment and has poor cold resistance. It is best to place it in a bright place when caring for it, especially in winter. Normally, the growth environment should be provided to be above 5 degrees. Once the temperature drops below zero, it will be frostbitten and may even die.

4. Fertilization

Fertilize frequently during the breeding period, especially during the growing season and before the fruit matures. Nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium fertilizers or chicken manure fertilizers should be applied in small amounts and multiple times, and attention should be paid to timely watering after each fertilization to dilute the fertilizer and avoid root burn.

5. Pruning

When caring for potted plants, they should also be pruned in time to promote the growth of side branches and keep the plant at a height of about 1.5 meters. When the fruit is first produced, the branches that bear fruits should be pruned, and diseased, weak and broken branches should be cut off, leaving the main branches.
