Cultivation methods and precautions of star-shaped begonia

Cultivation methods and precautions of star-shaped begonia

1. Soil

The main considerations when choosing soil are its fertility and air permeability. Generally speaking, you can use leaf mold, garden soil and peat soil, with one third of each.

2. Temperature

Star-spotted begonia likes warmth and is best kept between 18 and 21 degrees. Be sure to keep warm in winter, and it’s best not to drop below eight degrees. If it is raised in the north, it must be kept indoors.

3. Lighting

Because its leaves are relatively tender, the light must not be too strong. It can be placed in a place with diffuse light or semi-shaded place. Avoid midday light in summer. In order to survive the winter, it can be placed in a location with as much light as possible, otherwise frost damage may occur.

4. Watering

It requires more water during its growth period, so the soil should be kept slightly moist. When it is very hot in summer, you need to spray less water once or twice a day. If the temperature is below fifteen degrees in the cold winter, you don't need to water the plant, but you need to use spraying instead of watering.

5. Fertilization

During the vigorous growth stage, Star Begonia requires fertilizer, but generally not too much. Liquid fertilizer can be applied every two weeks, but the concentration should not be too high. You can also use compound fertilizer once a month, which should contain more phosphorus and potassium. Fertilizer needs to be controlled in winter.
