How often should orchids be watered? How to judge when orchids need watering

1. How often

Its growth requirements for water are extremely strict. Watering should not be too frequent and the soil in the pot should not be too dry. How often you water the plants is most closely related to the seasonal climate. It grows faster in spring and autumn and cannot lack water. It should be watered once a week. The temperature is high in summer and water evaporates quickly, so you should increase the frequency of irrigation appropriately, about once every three or four days. However, there is more rain in summer, so if it rains, you should reduce the frequency appropriately. Control the water in winter. Don’t water if the soil is not dry. Do it about once every half a month. It should be noted that these frequencies are not absolutely fixed and need to be changed according to actual conditions.

2. Judgment Method

1. Insert a toothpick: Insert a toothpick into the surface of the potting soil about four or five centimeters, wait for five minutes and take it out. If there is no moisture, it means it is dry and needs watering.

2. Insert the plastic tube: prepare a slightly thicker plastic tube, poke a few small holes in the bottom, cut it into an inclined surface, and bury it in the soil, about eight to ten centimeters deep. Then insert the cotton swab into the other end and check again after five minutes. If there is no moisture on the cotton swab, it means it is time to water.

3. Lifting the basin: This method requires rich experience to be more effective. Just lift the flowerpot with both hands and weigh it. If it feels much lighter than usual, it means the soil is almost dry and it is time to water it.
