How to propagate lucky bamboo by cuttings

Lucky bamboo is one of the most common plants in daily life. Its leaves are long, dark green and shiny, giving people a fresh and natural feeling. Its cultivation method is very simple. Lucky bamboo can also purify the air, improve indoor air quality, absorb some harmful gases, release oxygen, and make the indoor air fresher.

Cutting time of lucky bamboo

Lucky bamboo cuttings can generally be carried out throughout the year, and it is best to propagate it by cuttings from January to April. Lucky bamboo cuttings will take root fastest in early spring. Cut the mother plant at one-third of the distance from the rhizome as cuttings on the well-growing mother plant, remove the excess leaves on the branches, and disinfect them after pruning.

How to propagate lucky bamboo by cuttings

Cut a section from some longer lucky bamboo branches, each section is about 7 to 12 cm, and then you can carry out cutting propagation. Apply wax on the cut on the top of the lucky bamboo to prevent wound infection, and it will not rot even if it gets wet. This can also prevent the branches from turning yellow and withering. The branch cuttings should not be placed too deep in the water, the water level should be about 5 to 7 cm. It is best not to use tap water, but rainwater, well water and distilled water can be used.

Rooting of Lucky Bamboo Cuttings

Trim the roots of lucky bamboo at a 45° angle. This will allow the roots to better contact the water and absorb nutrients, allowing it to take root quickly. After pruning, you can trim off the excess leaves at the bottom to avoid consuming excess nutrients. Then put it in the prepared container. Don't change the water frequently. Change the water when you feel the water level is low. Otherwise, changing the water too frequently can easily cause malnutrition of the leaves.
