Peacock orchid cultivation methods and precautions

Peacock orchid is very easy to grow and can grow well under scattered light conditions. It is an ideal small indoor potted flower. It likes warm and humid environment, but can also withstand drought. It is mostly potted in the north. The potting soil is required to contain rich organic matter. In summer, it should be placed in a well-ventilated semi-shaded place and watered sparingly. In spring and autumn, it requires sufficient sunlight and sufficient watering.

How to grow peacock orchid

When growing peacock orchids, first of all, give them the best possible light. It is best to place them in a full-sun environment. Even worse ones need to be placed in an environment with half a day of direct sunlight. The soil can be ordinary garden soil, but don't use heavy loess. It is best to mix sandy leaf rot and garden soil. It requires loose and good drainage. The principle of watering is to water when the soil is wet and dry, and water thoroughly when watering. Succulent plants store a lot of water in their leaves and stems, so they are relatively drought-resistant.

1. Lighting:

In spring and autumn, peacock orchids should be placed on the balcony in a well-ventilated and light-transmitting place. In summer, when the temperature is high and the weather is hot, it is necessary to prevent the plants from being exposed to strong sunlight for a long time. They can be placed in a shady, cool place that is not exposed to direct sunlight. It should be noted that the sunlight should not be excessively blocked, or placed in a shaded place for too long, otherwise the flowering of the plants will be affected.

2. Temperature:

Peacock orchid prefers warm and semi-shaded environment and cannot withstand the cold. When planted in northern regions, it must spend the winter indoors. After entering the room, the potted flowers should be placed in a place with sufficient light. The indoor temperature can be controlled at 10-15℃. Too low temperature can easily cause the plant to die, and too high temperature can easily cause the plant to grow too tall, which is not conducive to flowering and maintaining a good plant shape.

3. Fertilization:

Peacock orchid likes fertilizer. During the growing season, you can use fully decomposed sesame paste residue, cake fertilizer or horseshoe slices diluted with water and apply it once every 15 days. After the Spring Festival, you can apply liquid fertilizer once every 10 days to promote the plant to grow faster. Be careful not to apply too much nitrogen fertilizer, otherwise the leaf-like stems will grow too dense and lush, which will adversely affect the flowering of the plant.

4. Pruning:

When changing the flowerpot of Peacock Orchid in spring or autumn every year, the dry and rotten roots of the plant need to be cut off to encourage the sprouting of new roots. During the planting period, a support should be set up for the plant as early as possible to tie up the flexible modified stems to prevent the modified stems from breaking and the plant from tilting. In the growing season, the excess side buds and branch buds at the base need to be wiped off as early as possible to reduce the loss of nutrients and ensure abundant flowering.

Peacock Orchid Care Precautions

When caring for peacock orchid, you should pay attention to the diseases that often occur, mainly brown spot disease and various insect pests. When it is harmed by scale insects, aphids, and red spiders, you can spray 50% cypermethrin emulsifiable concentrate to kill them. If it suffers from brown spot disease, you can spray 1000 times diluted 50% carbendazim wettable powder to treat it.
