Cultivation methods and precautions of chestnuts

Cultivation methods and precautions of chestnuts

Chestnuts are easy to grow, but the planting method and the soil used must be good in drainage. If the soil has poor drainage, it will be very detrimental to the growth of chestnuts and may even cause death.

How to cultivate chestnuts

1. Temperature

When breeding chestnuts, the growth temperature of chestnuts must be ensured to be between 20-30℃. Too high or too low temperature will affect their growth. In winter, the maintenance temperature must be ensured to be above 10℃. If the temperature is lower than 10℃, chestnuts are easily frozen.

2. Lighting

Chestnuts have strong adaptability to light and can grow in full-sun, half-sun and diffuse light environments. Usually, chestnuts should be exposed to more sunlight in winter, the more light the better. In spring and autumn, chestnuts can be exposed to the sun for half a day. In summer, avoid direct sunlight when cultivating in diffuse light.

3. Water and fertilizer

The water requirement of the chestnut is high, but the root system cannot tolerate waterlogging. It needs to be watered according to the change of seasons. In spring and autumn, it needs to be watered every 4 days, in summer, it needs to be watered every 1 day, and in winter, it needs to be watered once every half a month. During its growth period, it needs to apply nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium compound fertilizer to promote growth.

Matters Needing Attention in the Maintenance of Melon and Chestnut

When caring for chestnuts, you should pay attention to the ventilation of the environment. Especially when caring for chestnuts indoors, you should open windows frequently to ventilate the chestnuts to avoid long-term lack of ventilation, which will cause yellow leaves and withering. More ventilation can also effectively prevent the occurrence of diseases and pests.
