How to propagate sunflowers

How to propagate sunflowers

There are some things to note about the cutting propagation of sunflowers. Generally speaking, sunflowers can be propagated by cuttings in spring, autumn and summer. Before cuttings, we should choose to use one or two longer sunflower branches. Don’t care which sunflower varieties these branches belong to, because several kinds of sunflowers can be mixed in one pot. Note that these branches should be relatively fresh and full, so that they will be easier to survive. If there are really no branches, as long as they are not particularly dry and weak, they can be used for cuttings.

Sunflower cutting time

Generally speaking, it is just right to propagate sunflowers by cuttings in spring. If calculated by temperature, as long as the surrounding temperature reaches above ten degrees Celsius, you can start propagating sunflowers by cuttings, because as long as its growth temperature is not too low, its growth rate after cuttings will be very fast.

Sunflower cutting method

Generally speaking, as long as the sunflower grows in loose and breathable potting soil, its survival rate will not be low. Before cutting, you can poke a small hole with a wooden stick. A depth of about three centimeters is suitable for its survival. After cutting, pay attention to place it in a place with scattered light, and do not let it be under direct sunlight. When watering, follow the principle of watering when the soil is dry, and usually place it in a well-ventilated place.

Sunflower cutting rooting

If you want the sunflower to take root quickly after cuttings, remember to moisten the soil in the pot first, then spray the soil with water after cuttings. Then be careful not to water it on the first day, otherwise it will cause root rot and suffocation. After a week, gradually put the sunflower in a lighted place and maintain it normally. In this way, it will take root and sprout soon.
