Where does kelp grow?

Kelp is a perennial edible algae. It is shaped like a flat ribbon. Generally speaking, the length of kelp is 1.5-3 meters and the width is 15-25 centimeters. The longest can reach 6 meters and the widest can reach 50 centimeters. Kelp is brown-green in color and can secrete a large amount of slippery substances.

Where does kelp grow?

Generally speaking, kelp mainly grows in the sea. Some coastal areas in my country are cultivating kelp. Usually, wild kelp mainly grows on rocks, while cultured kelp mainly grows on ropes. The harvest season is from May to July every spring.

Where kelp grows

Kelp is more suitable for attaching to the rocks on the seabed and for growing and developing in the sea with lower water temperature. If it is cultivated artificially, it should be mostly selected in the flat mud bottom, the sea area with clean water and the water depth of more than 5 meters. At the same time, it also likes to grow on rocks on the seashore at low tide.

Kelp Origin

Kelp is native to northern Korea and Hokkaido, Japan. Since its introduction into my country, it has grown in coastal areas such as Liaodong, Shandong Peninsula, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Guangdong and Fujian. Among them, Xiapu in Fujian, Dalian in Liaoning and Rongcheng in Shandong are the three main kelp producing areas in my country.
