How to make cherry cuttings take root easily

How to make cherry cuttings take root easily

Cut one-year-old strong branches from the cherry tree, soak them in rooting water solution before cuttings, prepare a breathable and loose sand bed, poke holes in the substrate with a small stick, then insert the cuttings into the substrate, press them firmly with your hands, water them after cuttings, pay attention to moisturizing and heat preservation after cuttings, build a shade shed, remove suckers and buds from the cuttings to promote rooting and survival.

Cherry cutting time

Cherry trees are generally propagated by cuttings in spring and autumn. For spring cuttings, cherry trees are generally chosen after the leaves have fallen in the previous year. The healthy woody branches of the previous year are cut into pieces of about 18 cm and stored in moist sandy soil in bundles of 50 to 100. Cuttings are then carried out in March of the following year. Before cuttings, the cuttings should be soaked in a rooting powder solution for a period of time to facilitate rapid rooting.

Cherry cutting method

Choose a healthy cherry tree without diseases and insect pests, cut a woody branch about 15 cm in length from it, remove the leaves at the base of the branch, and only keep the 3-5 leaves on the top. Before cutting, soak the bottom of the branch in rooting powder solution, take it out after 30 minutes and wash it with clean water, put it in a cool place to dry, and insert the dried branch into plain sand.

Cherry cutting rooting

After cuttings, the soil should be kept moist to avoid drought. In order to ensure that it can take root faster, a moist environment should be provided and watering should be done more frequently. At the same time, water can be sprinkled around to increase the air humidity. About three weeks after the cuttings survive, top dressing should be carried out when the new shoots of the cuttings grow to twice their size when they were cut.
