Cultivation methods and precautions of azalea

Rhododendron has relatively few velvety roots and fine roots in its root system, and its requirements for the environment are relatively high. It is quite difficult to keep an azalea stump alive. The phenomenon of false survival of azalea is also very common. Generally speaking, the germination in the same year is not even true survival. Germination is the credit of the originally stored nutrients. If you neglect to shade it and neglect to spray it with water, it will still die in the second year. Rhododendron is difficult to grow.

How to cultivate azalea

Rhododendron is generally planted on hillsides, but it can also be grown in indoor potted plants. It likes to grow in a semi-shaded environment with a mild and humid climate and cannot be exposed to the sun. When cultivating, it is necessary to manage the soil, temperature, watering and fertilization to facilitate the normal growth of the plant.

1. Soil:

Rhododendron has certain requirements for soil. The plant likes to grow in loose, fertile, weakly acidic flower soil with good drainage and air permeability. Leaf mold, fine sand and garden soil can be mixed in proportion to make soil. The soil has high fertility and good air permeability, which is conducive to the growth of the plant.

2. Temperature:

The most suitable growth temperature for azalea is 12-25℃. It is not resistant to extreme heat and cold. In spring and summer, the temperature is high, so the plants need to be placed in a cool place for cultivation. At ordinary times, attention should be paid to cooling and shading to avoid direct sunlight. In winter, the temperature is low, so the temperature needs to be controlled and warming work should be done in time.

3. Watering:

Azalea does not require much water. The soil in the pot needs to be kept moist at ordinary times. When watering, the amount of water should be controlled. Wait until the surface of the soil in the pot is completely dry before watering again. In midsummer, when the climate is dry, you can use spraying to replenish water. In winter, the water evaporation is low, so you should water less to avoid water accumulation in the soil.

4. Fertilization:

Rhododendron likes fertilizer, but do not apply concentrated fertilizer or raw fertilizer. When applying fertilizer, you need to follow the principle of "thin fertilizer and frequent application". Organic fertilizer needs to be diluted before use to avoid fertilizer damage. During the plant growth period, you can apply fertilizer 2-3 times a month.

Azalea maintenance precautions

When caring for azalea, you should pay attention to the fact that it likes a humid environment. If the soil is dry, water it and control the amount of water. It is not tolerant to waterlogging and there should be no waterlogging. At the same time, it has a certain tolerance to shade and is afraid of strong light. It only needs to be exposed to diffuse light during maintenance. It consumes more nutrients during the growing season. In order to promote its vigorous growth and better flowering, it is best to apply thin fertilizer frequently to it for topdressing.
