Begonia cutting propagation methods and precautions

Begonia cutting time

The common name for plants of the genera Malus and Papaya. They are commonly propagated by sowing, division and grafting. Generally speaking, grafting is the main method of propagation, and sowing is only used for breeding.

Begonias can be propagated by cuttings in spring and autumn, but it is best to do it in April-May, or August-September, because the temperature in these two periods is more suitable for the growth of cuttings.

Begonia cutting propagation method

1. Prepare the cuttings

When taking cuttings of crabapple, you should choose branches with normal growth and 1 to 2 flower buds on them. Then use scissors to cut them into small sections of 5 to 6 cm in length, and then cut the bottom of the branches at an angle.

2. Prepare the substrate

In order to leave more growth space for the young roots of the plant, a flower soil with more gaps and a high particle content is needed as the substrate. It is recommended to use a mixture of leaf mold and river sand as the substrate for cutting.

3. Take cuttings

Soak the cuttings in disinfected water for 20 minutes, take them out and dry them, then slowly insert them into the soil, inserting about 2-3cm of the branches into the soil.

Begonia cuttings precautions

Don't start cuttings of crabapple too early. Start when the ground temperature at 10 cm is stable at above 15°C. After insertion, place it in a relatively cool location at around 20°C and slowly maintain it. Water immediately after cuttings, keep the substrate slightly moist, and roots will grow soon.
