When is the best time to transplant azalea

When azalea blooms, it is blood red, full of vitality and vigor, and has a very high ornamental value. Therefore, many people grow it at home. If you want to better propagate azalea, you must master the method of transplanting.

Transplanting time of azalea

When we transplant rhododendrons, we usually choose to transplant them around the Qingming Festival in spring. At this time, the rhododendrons have just passed their dormant period and have not yet sprouted, so the survival rate of transplanting is relatively high.

Azalea transplanting method

1. Soil environment

Rhododendron prefers loose, fertile, well-drained, breathable, humus-containing acidic soil. Mix humus soil, garden soil, and river sand in a ratio of 2:2:4 to provide sufficient nutrients and promote plant growth.

2. Proper pruning

After removing the azalea from the pot, check its root growth. Prune any rotten roots in time, soak the diseased, old, and rotten roots in a potassium permanganate solution for disinfection and sterilization. After taking them out and drying them, add an appropriate amount of rooting powder to promote healthy growth of the plant roots.

3. Planting

Put the prepared soil into the flowerpot to a depth of half the depth of the flowerpot, plant the azalea in the soil with a large area of the roots in contact with the soil, cover it with a layer of soil, and compact the surrounding soil.

Management of Azalea after Transplantation

Azalea needs to be watered immediately after transplanting. This time, make sure to water it thoroughly. The next watering time will be three days later. Be careful not to water too much to avoid water accumulation that affects the survival of the roots.

After transplanting azalea, you must not fertilize it immediately. You should know that its roots may be wounded during the transplanting process, and fertilizing it immediately will cause its death. It is best to fertilize it after a period of time.
