1. CuttingCutting is one of the commonly used propagation methods for camellia. The operation is relatively simple and has a high survival rate. Cuttings are usually taken in September, but can also be taken in spring. First, select a healthy plant without diseases or insect pests, cut its semi-lignified branches, remove the leaves at the base, and keep the top three leaves. Cut the bottom of the branch into an oblique opening, immerse it in indolebutyric acid solution, take it out after 5-15 minutes, and insert it into a sand pot or vermiculite. It will generally take 60 days to take root. 2. GraftingCamellia grafting can usually be carried out from Qingming Festival to Mid-Autumn Festival. Generally, tea oil tree is chosen as the rootstock, which is planted in a flowerpot and its top is cut into a slope. The scion should be a branch with good growth, and the bottom needs to be cut at an angle to ensure that it fits well with the cut of the rootstock. It can then be wrapped with plastic film. Water the graft twice a day after grafting, and it will usually heal after two months. 3. High VoltageCamellias can also be propagated using the high pressure method. Select the thinner branches on the plant and ring them 15-25 cm away from the top. The width of the ring should be about 5-8 mm. Then put a plastic film on the peeled place and fill it with moist peat soil or leaf mold to wrap the wound. Spray water regularly to keep it moist. After the wound takes root, you can cut it off and replant it. 4. SowingThe fruits of camellia ripen in autumn, and the seeds can be picked and sown at this time, or they can be stored in sand and sown in spring. Because the seed coat is relatively hard, it needs to be cut with a knife or soaked in warm water for a period of time before sowing. Prepare loose and fertile soil, sprinkle the seeds on the surface, spray water appropriately and cover with a layer of plastic film, and remove it after the seedlings emerge. |
