Coleus is a perennial herb with an ugly shape and little ornamental value.

The branches and trunks of the coleus plant are covered with hairs, the stems are quadrangular, and the base of the plant is woody;

Leaves: Single leaves grow oppositely, are oval in shape, have long tips that gradually become pointed, and have blunt teeth on the edges. The surface of the leaves is a mixture of green, yellow, pink, scarlet and other colors.

The flowers of Coleus are terminal racemes, very small flowers, light blue or light purple.

Stem of Perilla: The stem is green or purple, with a blunt quadrangular shape, four grooves on it, and covered with soft hairs;

Perilla leaves: The leaves are broadly ovate or round, with a short or pointed top, a round or broad wedge-shaped base, and coarse serrations on the edges of the leaves. The leaf surface is green or purple, covered with sparse soft hairs on the upper side and raw soft hairs on the lower side;

Perilla flowers: The flowers are 2-flowered cymes, covered with velvet, relatively large, and mostly pink and white.

Coleus is a plant that likes warm weather and has strong adaptability to the environment. The temperature in winter should be kept above 10℃. In high temperatures in summer, it should be slightly shaded, but sufficient sunlight should be ensured to make the leaves bright.

Growth habits of Perilla

Perilla is a plant with strong growth adaptability. It is not demanding on the soil in which it grows, as long as it is well-drained sandy soil. It is mainly seen growing in front of and behind houses, beside ditches and on the edges of fields. It can also be planted and cultivated under young fruit trees.
