What are the cultivation methods and precautions for potted osmanthus trees?

In addition to the greening trees we see outside, there are also some varieties of osmanthus that can be planted as potted plants. When it blooms, not only are there beautiful plants to appreciate, but the surroundings are also filled with bursts of floral fragrance. It is relatively easy to cultivate and can be planted in pots or in the ground.

Cultivation method of potted osmanthus tree

1. Fertile soil

Potted osmanthus trees are suitable for planting in fertile, humus-rich, well-drained slightly acidic soil. If you prepare it yourself, you can mix it with humus or peat, garden soil, sand or river sand.

2. Adequate lighting

Potted osmanthus trees are long-day plants. If you want the osmanthus to bloom beautiful flowers, you must place it in a place with sufficient sunlight. It must receive at least four hours of sunlight a day. If there is insufficient light, only leaves will grow but no flowers will bloom.

3. Suitable temperature

The temperature suitable for the growth of potted osmanthus trees is 15-28℃, and the lowest acceptable temperature is -13℃. Seedlings cannot grow in a high temperature environment, and shade and maintenance measures must be taken, otherwise it will easily cause them to wither.

4. Watering

Potted osmanthus trees should be watered less before new shoots grow, just keep the soil slightly moist. Reduce watering during the rainy season. Water evaporates quickly in the hot summer season. Water once in the morning and evening. When the sunlight is strong, you can spray some water mist appropriately. There should be no water accumulation in the pot.

5. Fertilization

Potted osmanthus trees bloom in large quantities and consume a lot of fertilizer, so base fertilizer should be applied from November to December, so that the branches and leaves will be lush in the spring of the following year, which is conducive to the differentiation of flower buds. Top dressing should be applied before the second branch growth in July, so that more flowers can bloom in autumn.

Matters Needing Attention in the Maintenance of Potted Osmanthus Trees

During the cultivation period of potted osmanthus trees, the pots and soil need to be changed. This will not only make the whole plant look more beautiful, but also promote the growth of more new buds. Usually, the potting soil is changed every 2-3 years, and the roots are pruned during the repotting.

If you grow a potted osmanthus tree indoors, you should place it in a well-ventilated place. If the air is not circulated, the leaves of the osmanthus tree will easily turn yellow and fall off. However, you should not place it in a windy place, otherwise the cold wind will blow directly and it will easily get frostbite.
