How to propagate roses

The main ways of rose propagation are sowing, cuttings and division. Its seeds can also be propagated, and its natural reproduction method is also seed propagation. Generally speaking, rose cuttings are the fastest propagation.

Rose breeding time

The commonly used method of propagation for roses is division, which can usually be done before budding in March or after leaf fall in autumn. The climate at these two times is relatively suitable, and the survival rate of reproduction is high.

How to propagate roses

Rose division propagation

Dig out the healthy roses with their roots, being careful not to damage the roots. Then divide them into several parts according to the roots and plant them separately.

Rose cutting propagation

Cut the sturdy branches of two-year-old roses, about 15 cm in length, apply mud on the lower end of the branches, choose a soft and breathable medium for cuttings, then insert the branches into the medium, and then place them in a semi-shaded place. It will take about 1 month to take root.

Rose seed propagation

Rose seed propagation is only suitable for single petals. Before planting, soak the rose seeds in warm water at about 40 degrees for 5-7 hours, take them out and dry them. Choose a soft and nutrient-rich substrate, sow them evenly, and cover them with a 2 cm layer of fine soil. They will germinate in about 1 month.

How to propagate hydroponic roses

Prepare a transparent container. Before hydroponically propagating rose cuttings, trim the bottom into a slope to allow more contact and absorption of water. Cut off most of the leaves, place the branches directly into the container, add water, and pay attention to changing the water frequently in the later stage. Change the water 2-3 days before rooting, and once a week after rooting.

Rose breeding precautions

To propagate roses, you need to choose a breathable and good-looking flowerpot. It is recommended to use flower soil made of leaf mold and fine sand. You should try to place it in a warmer room. After it propagates and survives, it is best to keep it in a well-lit place so that it can receive more sunlight.
