Precautions for repotting Areca palm

If the growth of the Areca palm is limited due to the size and material of the flowerpot, it is necessary to change the pot in time to ensure its normal growth, otherwise the roots will easily fail to absorb nutrients. If it is grown in a greenhouse, the pot can be changed in all four seasons without restrictions, but under natural outdoor conditions, the time is generally selected between March and September each year. The climate during this period is relatively mild and is very suitable.

1. Repotting season:

Areca palm is an indoor ornamental plant with a large overall outline. When repotting, you must choose the right season to avoid affecting the development of the Areca palm. Usually, the Areca palm needs to be repotted in spring and autumn every year. If the maintenance temperature drops below 15℃, it cannot be repotted.

2. Moisture control:

Before repotting the Areca palm, stop watering it for a week. When the soil becomes slightly dry, you can easily remove the Areca palm from the pot by knocking hard on the outer edge of the pot with your hand.

Key points for repotting Areca palm

1. Root pruning and drying

When repotting the Areca palm, you need to properly trim the old, rotten, and weak roots, then mix in some new soil and compact it.

2. Watering

After repotting the Areca palm, water it thoroughly and move it to a cool and ventilated place to allow the seedlings to grow slowly. Observe the soil surface turning white and dry and water it thoroughly. Gradually increase the light exposure time one week after repotting.

3. Soil for repotting

When repotting the Areca palm, you must retain a certain amount of old soil, that is, leave a portion of the soil between the roots and only shake off the old soil on the outer layer of the soil.
