When is the best time to transplant azalea?

When is the best time to transplant azalea?

Rhododendrons are divided into seedling transplanting and mountain stake transplanting. Seedling transplanting is suitable for March and April in spring, while mountain stake transplanting can be done after late autumn, which can reduce damage to the plants.

Rhododendron transplanting time

Rhododendrons are more suitable for transplanting in spring, preferably when the plants have not yet sprouted. This will increase the survival rate of transplanting and reduce damage to the plants.

How to transplant azalea

1. Digging piles

Rhododendrons can be dug in late autumn and early winter. Be careful to retain more roots when digging the piles, and choose those growing near rocks, as they are the easiest to transplant and survive.

2. Soil

The best growing soil for azaleas is loose, fertile, well-drained sandy loam. You can mix some river sand into the garden soil and add some chicken manure or bean cake as base fertilizer.

3. Put it in the basin

The time from digging the stump to potting should not exceed 48 hours. Some original soil needs to be at the roots, and the roots and branches and leaves should be slightly trimmed when potting.

Management of azalea after transplanting

After transplanting the azalea, it is best to place it in a semi-shaded, ventilated environment and let the plant receive dew. It takes about a year to acclimate to the pot. During this period, it needs to be sprayed with water every day to keep it moist, but water should not be allowed to accumulate in the soil.
