Osmanthus is a traditional famous flower in China. It is a tree that combines greening, beautification and fragrance. Many people plant it in their homes. So what should you do if the leaves of the osmanthus you plant turn yellow, dry up and fall off? Let’s learn more about it below. 1. Leaf blight Leaf blight is a common leaf disease of osmanthus. The disease generally occurs at the leaf edges and tips of osmanthus leaves. It can dry up one-third to one-half of the entire leaf, and then cause the entire leaf to necrotize and fall off. Solution: When the disease occurs, it is recommended to use Qilin Kejun in combination with Zhidazhuang for spray prevention and control. 2. Too little fertilizer When growing sweet-scented osmanthus trees , if too little fertilizer is applied, the plants will become malnourished and the leaves will turn yellow and fall off. Solution: A nutritionally balanced nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium compound fertilizer needs to be applied once every month. 3. Lack of water The osmanthus tree needs sufficient water during its growth. If it is watered too little, the plant will lack water, causing the leaves of the osmanthus tree to turn yellow and fall off. Solution: Water once every three days, soak the soil completely, and spray water mist on the flowers and leaves of the osmanthus. 4. Too much light When the light is too strong, the leaves of the osmanthus tree will turn yellow and dry. Solution: Take shade measures for the osmanthus tree and cover the plant with dark plastic sheeting to prevent the leaves of the osmanthus tree from being burned by strong light. 5. Soil compaction Osmanthus likes loose, breathable, slightly acidic soil. If it is a potted osmanthus tree, there is not much soil. If the soil is not loose, breathable and not acidic enough, it will lead to poor absorption of nutrients and easily cause dry tips and yellow leaves. Solution: If this happens, you must replace the soil. You can use leaf mold, granular soil and pine needle soil in a ratio of 1:1:1 for maintenance. This will allow the soil to be breathable and not easily become compacted. 6. Overwatering For potted osmanthus trees, excessive watering often causes the roots to become suffocated, and the air in the soil is squeezed out by the water, resulting in poor root respiration, disease and rot, and drying up of the leaf tips, leading to the withering of all the leaves. Solution: When caring for an osmanthus tree, water it thoroughly when the surface of the soil in the pot has dried up two or three centimeters. If it is outdoors, you can increase the amount of watering appropriately during the growing season. 7. Excessive fertilization Osmanthus is particularly fond of fertilizer because it blooms a lot. If chemical fertilizers are used, and if the amount is too much, it can easily cause root diseases and dry tips and yellow leaves. Solution: When fertilizing osmanthus, it is best to use organic fertilizer, such as dry chicken manure, dry sheep manure, etc., which has sufficient fertilizer strength, long-lasting effect and is not easy to damage the roots.
