How to prune roses after flowering

Pruning after first flowering

>

The first time roses bloom is in spring, and pruning after flowering is generally done in late May. The main purpose of pruning at this time is to prune away the remaining flowers and prevent them from forming seeds, so that there will be nutrients to grow new branches and leaves, and the second flowering will be better.

It is better to prune lightly at this time, retaining about 5 buds on the plant. If the branches are growing poorly, you can prune them heavily to make them grow new branches. Pruning the branches and leaves of roses to different degrees can make the plant grow well and more evenly.

When pruning, be careful to prune above the bud, generally 0.5 cm above is best.

Second post-flowering pruning

After the rose blooms for the second time, usually in late June to early July, which is summer, light pruning is usually sufficient. Prune below the second pair of leaves below the flower. Be careful not to cut off too many branches and leaves. Just cut off the dead flowers and overgrown branches in time.

Third post-flowering pruning

The pruning of roses after the third flowering is generally in August. The pruning at this time is moderate pruning, leaving 2 or 3 buds on each branch.

In addition, you can prune the branches that bloom for the second time, and cut off the overlapping and dense branches to ensure ventilation and light transmission.

Good pruning can promote better flowering of roses.
