Can Ginkgo trees be propagated by cuttings?

Ginkgo biloba is a beautiful tree species with a long history of cultivation in China. It can be planted in forests or in potted plants. It is easy to maintain and has many ways to propagate, including cuttings, division, sowing and grafting.

Ginkgo tree cutting propagation

Ginkgo trees can be propagated by cuttings, which is currently the most widely used method of propagation. It can be done by cuttings of tender branches grown in the current year, or by cuttings of mature branches grown in the current year.

Ginkgo tree cutting time

If you want to take cuttings of ginkgo trees, it is recommended to set the time in March or April. This is mainly because the temperature will warm up during this period and the climate is suitable, which is very suitable for the survival of cuttings. In addition, spring is the growing season for plants, and the cut cuttings can grow quickly and survive.

Ginkgo tree cutting propagation method

1. Prepare the substrate: Ginkgo can easily survive in moist and breathable sandy soil, sandy soil, and river sand. You can choose river sand, vermiculite, and perlite, mix them evenly in a ratio of 6:2:2, and use them as the cutting substrate.

2. Select cuttings: Select 1-2 year old high-quality disease-free branches with a length of 15-20 cm. Cut off some leaves, retain 2-3 tender leaves on the top, and make the bottom cut obliquely. After cutting, wash them with clean water, soak them in rooting water for about 60 minutes, take them out and dry them for cuttings.

3. Cutting: Prepare a suitable flowerpot, fill it with the prepared culture soil, about 70% (don't fill it too full), smooth the soil, insert the ginkgo cuttings into the substrate, water until the soil is moist, place it in a semi-shaded and ventilated place for maintenance, and wait for rooting.
