What fertilizers to use for grape fertilization in spring (how to properly fertilize grape vines in spring)

1. Pay attention to the garden conditions and tree conditions

1. For vineyards that do not apply base fertilizer or have insufficient base fertilizer in autumn, you can apply 50 kg of 15-15-15 nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium compound fertilizer per mu at this time.

For vineyards that produced large fruits and high yields in the previous year, the amount of fertilizer should be increased according to the tree vigor to promote the recovery of nutrient-deficient trees as soon as possible.

2. If the grape trees grew vigorously in the previous year and there was no drought in spring, not only should no fertilizer be applied, but fertilizer and water should be properly controlled to prevent the new shoots from growing too vigorously or too tall and affecting the differentiation and development of flower buds.

However, for grape trees with average or weak growth, timely topdressing should be applied to supplement nutrients and promote growth.

In short, the general principle of topdressing grape trees in spring is: apply more fertilizer to large trees and less fertilizer to small trees, more fertilizer to weak trees and less fertilizer to strong trees, more fertilizer to trees with more fruit sets and less fertilizer to trees with fewer fruit sets.

2. Pay attention to the time of topdressing

Grapes generally need at least three applications of top dressing from the budding stage to the fruit expansion stage, such as germination fertilizer, fruit expansion fertilizer, pre-flowering fertilizer, color change fertilizer, and post-fruit fertilizer. The specific number of fertilizations and the amount of fertilizer applied should be flexibly controlled according to the conditions of the garden, the vigor of the trees, etc.

The first topdressing can be done before the grape trees sprout. This topdressing should be mainly nitrogen fertilizer, supplemented by phosphorus and potassium fertilizers.

It can also be used in the method of decomposed farmyard manure + urea to meet the nutrient needs of flower bud differentiation and new shoot growth. The amount of fertilizer applied can be 10-15% of the annual fertilizer amount.

It should be noted that if there is sufficient water and fertilizer, the tree is vigorous, and the amount of fruit is small, there is no need to apply germination fertilizer.

The second topdressing can be done after the grape trees have bloomed and when the young fruits begin to expand. At this time, the grape trees have a relatively large demand for nutrients.

Whether water and fertilizer directly affects the yield of the next year, topdressing should be emphasized. Topdressing can be carried out using the method of decomposed farmyard manure + urea + appropriate amount of wood ash or potassium fertilizer, or it can be carried out according to the principle of nitrogen fertilizer as the main fertilizer and phosphorus and potassium fertilizer as the auxiliary fertilizer.

You can also spray with 0.3-0.5% urea water + 0.3% potassium dihydrogen phosphate to meet the nutrient needs of flower bud differentiation and fruit enlargement and development. The amount of fertilizer can be used at 20-30% of the annual fertilizer amount.

The third topdressing is generally carried out when the grape seeds begin to color. At this time, the fruit needs more nutrients for expansion, coloring, dry matter and sugar accumulation, but the main demand is phosphorus and potassium fertilizers.

You can use phosphorus and potassium fertilizers, or you can use potassium dihydrogen phosphate, wood ash filtrate, etc. for foliar spraying. The amount of fertilizer applied can be about 10% of the annual fertilizer amount.

In addition, during the grape fruit swelling period, in order to ensure the high quality of the grape fruit and reduce problems such as fruit cracking, soft fruit and fruit falling, attention should be paid to applying appropriate amounts of calcium, boron, zinc and other trace element fertilizers as well as humic acid, fruit safety and other nutrients.

In terms of fertilization method, it is recommended to apply fertilizer by foliar spraying, which has high efficiency and fast absorption speed!

For pre-flowering fertilizer, you can apply it 10-15 days before the grape trees bloom. If the trees are growing normally, you don’t need to apply fertilizer, but if the trees are weak, you need to apply fertilizer to strengthen them.

4. Other management of fruit trees during budding period

After the fruit trees sprout, it is necessary to promptly carry out bud removal and pinching management. On the premise of retaining the two main buds on the upper fruit clusters, the buds, secondary buds, and densely grown buds on the lower part of the fruit trees should be thinned out.

For the fruiting branches on the fruit trees, the summer buds between the leaf nodes should be removed in time to promote the growth of the top of the branches. One or two days before the flower spikes of the fruit trees bloom, the branches should be topped and pinched to promote more and better fruit setting.
